EnerNex Announces New Cyber Security Position Opening
Information Systems Security Architect
The function of this position is to apply engineering and problem solving skills to develop solutions to complex problems in the electric power delivery process related to grid modernization. This position produces solutions based on a strong background in information security, enterprise information architecture, and familiarity with utility enterprise information models, common utility communication protocols and information modeling standards, a working knowledge of advanced sensing and control, renewable energy, distributed resources, demand response programs, advanced metering infrastructure, distribution automation, distributed computing, electrical, mechanical and information systems integration, enterprise information architecture, cyber security, and related disciplines and methodologies.
The position involves assisting utility clients in requirements capture, requirements analysis, developing information system architecture based on requirements, developing bid specifications, writing reports and preparing project deliverables. Information security is a substantial focus of this position requiring a strong understanding of information security principles, policy development, and risk management. This position will also be responsible for assisting senior staff in the design, implementation, and documentation of embedded network communication devices, Microsoft web server based applications, database applications, and other client applications on Linux and Microsoft platforms.
Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of the Smart Grid as defined by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and related industry consortia
- Self-starter who works with minimal supervision and can interface effectively with clients and work positively in a team environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as presentation skills to effectively communicate with clients, peers and management.
- Problem solving and continuous improvement skills
- Effective team player who is willing to accept a leadership role both internally and externally in collaborating on strategic initiatives and opportunities to drive business growth
- Possess a working knowledge of IEC Common Information Model (CIM)
- Strong technical knowledge of system studies and analysis, as well as advanced technology in chosen field of expertise
- Strong organizations skills and working knowledge of project management principals
- Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and consistently meet deadlines
- Knowledge of utility SCADA systems, databases, and distribution automation.
- Working knowledge of data analysis techniques.
- Ability to travel out of town on assignments of more than two days in duration.
Education
- BS in Computer Science or Software Engineering, MS preferred from ABET accredited institution.
- CISSP certification required.
- Other certifications as deemed necessary may be required.
- Demonstrated proficiency in productivity and data analysis software including: Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word. Knowledge of Microsoft Access and Project a plus.
Experience:
3-5 years of business and staff management experience in the electric utility industry working with a supplier to the industry or as a principal consultant within a consulting firm providing cyber security services to the electric power industry, or other applicable cyber-security related experience.
A Utility Information Systems Security Architect will:
- Strong background in computer science fundamentals
- Solid understanding of information security principles
- Understanding of methodologies for architecting large systems
- Understanding of the Unified Modeling Language (UML) and UML tools (e.g. MagicDraw, Rational Rose)
- Understanding of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA)
- Solid understanding of formal software requirements gathering and documentation methodologies
- Solid understanding of writing effective use cases
- Understanding of communication protocol design and applications, including the OSI model
- Understanding and experience in XML, XML manipulation tools such as XMLSpy
- Understanding and experience in Web Services
- Fluent in C, C++
- Solid understanding of Microsoft Software Development tool chains
- Knowledge of Java, C#, Visual Basic
- Some knowledge of LINUX and GNU tool chain
- Some understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals
- Some understanding of embedded systems development
- Strong familiarity with use of Microsoft Office Suite components (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
- Solid writing skills
- Represent the Company by publishing papers, articles and as a lecturer on cyber security related topics and technologies.
- Review reports prepared by others for accuracy, quality, and completeness.
- Work closely with other groups within and outside the Company
- Determine job costs and prepare proposals and quotations
- Continuously practice improving and perfecting technical and consulting skills
- Perform other related duties as may be required
