Kay Stefferud joined EnerNex as a Principal Consultant in February 2010. Kay is a collaborative, versatile and results-oriented system engineer, who has technical, program and team leadership experience in dynamic, rapidly-evolving environments. She uses her analytic problem solving skills in requirements specification, design, and test and system deployment. Kay has full project experience from concept development to system installation and training.

Professional Highlights

While at Lockheed Martin, Kay held the positions of Senior Staff Engineer/Engineering Manager and simultaneously led teams completing Smart Grid, Navy and cyber security projects on-schedule and under budget while increasing customer confidence and contract awards. She was co-chair of the UCA AMI-ENT Use Case team leading a diverse industry group producing Demand Response use cases and requirements. Since 2008 Kay has been co-chair of the UCA AMI-ENT Use Case team leading a diverse industry group producing Demand Response use cases and requirements. Kay has produced use cases, business process models and detailed requirements using Enterprise Architect for DOE and CEC MicroGrid projects. She has performed market analysis of competitors’ strengths and weaknesses for new suite of energy products. Kay also:

  • Developed concepts and briefed solutions to potential customers;
  • Wrote winning proposals and led subsequent projects developing and integrating email and web-based Java applications to detect and block malicious code;
  • Wrote training material and sent team to Florida to install, train and test product;
  • Principal investigator and program manager for R&D cyber security and hardware sensor data fusion projects using SOA web services, C/C++ and Java. Initiated two patent applications;
  • Introduced and implemented secure coding standards to eliminate security vulnerabilities before installation; and
  • Managed 35 engineers in 4 states working in company, customer and home-based environments. System Engineering Cost Account Manager (CAM), and safety engineer for data fusion C/C++/Java system which completed all deliverables on time and under budget, including customer-driven system reviews.

While at Sync Research, before being promoted to the position of Manager of the Network Monitoring and Management Group, as a Network Engineer, Kay:

  • Wrote systems requirements based on marketing requirements;
  • Developed and maintained network management and real-time monitoring software for embedded network devices including routers, frame-relay and protocol monitoring devices;
  • Installed and tested applications at high profile customer facilities;
  • Developed test plans, procedures and performed qualification testing; and
  • Investigated and corrected interface problems.

As a Software/System Engineer at Logicon, Kay developed, integrated and tested health care, data analysis, disk verification, and mission planning systems. She wrote requirements, designed software architectures, performed safety analyses, conceived of and initiated system end-to-end test program which both the Air Force and Navy decided to mandate prior to deployment. Kay also wrote off-nominal, safety warnings and emergency procedures, and developed system training material and trained end-users in England.
