Rick has 19 years of broad-based experience as a management consultant in the electric and natural gas utility industries in the United States and abroad. He has consulted with over 25 different companies in the industry and has been a speaker at industry conferences. Rick possesses strong consulting, project management and leadership skills. His areas of expertise include strategy development and business transformation with emphasis on strategic change and utility operations.
Rick joined EnerNex’s Smart Grid Engineering Team in the summer of 2008. Prior to joining EnerNex, he was an Assistant Vice President with Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), an Associate Partner with IBM, and a Director at ScottMadden, Inc.
Rick has led a wide range of consulting engagements during his career, including experience in all functional areas of the utility organization. Over the last several years, he has increasingly focused on Transmission and Distribution operations, assisting clients in the areas of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), Smart Grid, work management, and asset management. His list of clients includes Entergy, TVA, Southern Company, CenterPoint Energy, and Areva T&D.
Some recent client engagements that Rick has led include:
- Developed a Smart Grid roadmap for a large southeastern electric utility Developed an AMI roadmap for a large association of distribution cooperatives and municipalities
- Prepared a best practices-based gap analysis and high-level asset management strategy for the Distribution business unit of a large electric utility in the southern U.S.
- Evaluated the feasibility of replacing the existing work management, mobile data, and graphical design systems for the distribution business unit of a large electric/gas utility company. Developed a multi-year strategy for system upgrade/replacement. Assisted in the review of current market solution offerings, documentation of requirements, and preparation of a detailed business case to support system replacement/implementation
- Developed a mobile data disaster recovery plan for the distribution business unit of a large electric/gas utility company. Project scope included the development of risk analysis and business case
- Developed an in-depth marketing study and business plan for the North American substation IED (intelligent electronic device) business unit of a major international distribution equipment and utility services company. Study included market segmentation and analysis, value proposition assessment, commercial/sales strategy, and time-phased business plan
