Sandy Smith provides marketing and research services for EnerNex clients. He has been involved in marketing, public outreach and research relating to energy issues for over ten years and with stakeholder outreach and public information programs for longer than that. He has worked with a number of clients including the U.S. Department of Energy, Electric Power Research Institute and other organizations.

He has experience in a number of areas relating to market research and technology transfer, especially in the electric utility industry. He has also conducted research on electric power deregulation, emerging technologies and power system reliability. He has written articles and reports for a wide-range of high level and technical level audiences in the electric power industry.

At EnerNex, he provides communications, outreach and event planning support to the Utility Wind Integration Group (UWIG), an organization facilitating the responsible integration of wind generation into utility power systems. There, he administers the UWIG Web site, coordinates media relations, edits a member newsletter and manages all communications with the membership and various stakeholder publics. He provides logistical, marketing and on-site support to two technical workshops a year, along with a multi-day wind integration short course and membership annual meeting.

Other work for EnerNex clients included the development of booklets and brochures for the Power Quality Service Center, support on document deliverables for the EPRI IntelliGrid Architecture development effort and a research project on SCADA system cyber security for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. He served as principal investigator for a project for CEA Technologies researching the state of the art in load management, coordinating and conducting data gathering and analysis as well as writing the final project report.

Prior to joining EnerNex, Sandy served as Marketing Manager for Electrotek Concepts. There, he worked extensively in technology transfer, writing about research and development, technical projects and case studies for conference presentations and trade publications. He co-authored several equipment testing and application guides for a business alliance between Electrotek and Platts Research & Consulting. Prior to joining Electrotek, he worked for Science Applications International Corporation, working with clients at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Army.

He is a member of the Public Relations Society of America and the IEEE Power Engineering Society.
