KNOXVILLE, Tenn., Aug. 18, 2009 — Knoxville-based EnerNex Corporation announced today it has earned a position of 1449 on the 2009 Inc. 5,000, Inc.’s annual ranking of the fastest-growing private companies in the U.S.
EnerNex is one of 100 Tennessee companies named to this year’s list and one of only seven Knoxville-based companies. The firm experienced a 221 percent revenue growth in the last four years and ranked 18th among engineering companies. In 2008, EnerNex broke the list at 1709 and number 45 among energy companies.
Jeff Lamoree, president and chief executive officer, of EnerNex said, “We are proud to be recognized by Inc. magazine for our accomplishments and be amongst the fasting growing companies in the U.S. for the second year in a row. Our firm has undergone significant growth this past year; we look forward to continuing that growth in the coming years.”
The 2009 Inc. 5000 are ranked according to percentage revenue growth from 2005 through 2008. To qualify, companies must have been founded and generating revenue by the first week of 2005, and therefore able to show four full calendar years of sales. Additionally, they have to be U.S.-based, privately held, for profit, and independent -- not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies -- as of December 31, 2009. Revenue in 2005 must have been at least $200,000, and revenue in 2008 must have been at least $2 million.
Despite the ongoing recession, aggregate revenue, the 2009 Inc. 5000, as revealed online at www.inc.com, reported an increase to $214 billion, up $29 billion from last year, with a median three-year growth rate of 126 percent. The Inc. 5000 are responsible for creating more than 1 million jobs since their founding, making the list perhaps the best example of the impact private, fast-growing companies can have on the economy.
