Grant Gilchrist joins EnerNex Corporation

Knoxville, Tenn., January 20, 2005 - EnerNex® Corporation is pleased to announce that Grant Gilchrist has joined as a Consulting Engineer. Grant is a recognized expert in data communications for the electric power industry, particularly in areas relating to Internet protocols, OSI, security, and SCADA applications. He brings sixteen years of experience in the design and development of embedded real-time software, along with extensive involvement in standards development for the IEC, IEEE, American Gas Association, Standards Council of Canada, and the DNP Technical Committee.

Grant comes to EnerNex from GE Energy Services, where he was heavily involved in the development of the EPRI/E2I Integrated Energy and Communication Systems Architecture (IECSA, now IntelliGrid) as well as the EPRI Utility Communications Architecture. As a member of several IEC working groups, he has been actively involved in the development of the IEC 61850 series of utility communications standards, and a key contributor to the rollout and deployment of IEC 60870-5 protocols. Most recently, Grant has been heavily involved in the effort to secure the IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5, and DNP3 protocol suites.

Grant brings to EnerNex eleven years of experience in substation automation and SCADA protocols. He is a founding member of the DNP Technical Committee, the author of the DNP3 Subset Definitions, and contributor to the IEEE 1379 recommendation for substation-to-IED communications.

Previously, Grant worked at Bell-Northern Research Limited, where he helped pioneer object-oriented protocols in the utility industry and gained extensive experience with the OSI protocol suite.

A graduate of the University of Regina, Grant is a member of IEC Technical Committee 57, the Standards Council of Canada, the IEEE Standards Association, and the DNP Technical Committee, where he served as secretary for seven years. He is registered as a Professional Engineer in Canada.

According to Erich Gunther, co-founder and Chief Technology Officer for EnerNex, this represents a significant advancement for EnerNex's utility communications and systems integration business: "Grant is well known and respected within the utility industry for his expertise in communication protocols and standards, and he will help us expand our capabilities and business."
