GridWeek Monday Sessions
Monday April 23, 2007
Patricia Hoffman, Deputy Director, Research & Development Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability at the U.S. Department of Energy will officially kick off National GridWeek 2007. Ms. Hoffman will deliver welcoming remarks on behalf of the Committee and will present a summary of the three preceding sessions addressing a public message on smart grid, smart grid collaborative projects, and smart grid roadmapping. Joining Ms. Hoffman in the Plenary session are representatives of organizations leading in the smart grid space who will further expound on the message, the importance and examples of collaboration, and chartered pathways leading to creation of a smart grid.
Smart Grid Collaborative Projects
Erich Gunther, Panelist
This session is open to all attendees with the purpose of coordinating and building collaborative projects to advance modernization of the transmission and distribution grid. Many collaborative projects currently exist, with some involving only private-sector entities and others also incorporating involvement of the public sector (federal and/or State energy offices). Each existing collaboration has a specific scope of activities related to research, development, testing, demonstration, and deployment in its technical areas of focus (inclusive of distribution, transmission, and their sub- and cross-cutting technologies). This session will provide for open and active dialog with all attending collaborative project participants and attendees to gain first-hand knowledge about the existing collaborations and their niche areas, as well as to uncover any gap areas from an overall grid systems view that will require expanded or new collaborative projects. Active participation by all attendees is expected.
