Bruce Muschlitz joins EnerNex Corporation

Knoxville, Tenn., May 23, 2005 - EnerNex® Corporation is pleased to announce that Bruce Muschlitz has joined as a Consulting Engineer supporting EnerNex's work in utility data communications and system integration. He brings more than 13 years experience in electric power systems and project team leadership with emphasis on utility communications protocols. Recently, Muschlitz chaired the UCA International Users Group conformance testing committee for IEC 61850-based products.

Muschlitz comes to EnerNex from Areva/Alstom/Bitronics, where he was heavily involved in software architecture and communication protocol design and implementation. Prior to that, Muschlitz worked at Bell and Howell Phillipsburg Company implementing embedded real-time systems for motion-control products.

He has strong experience with industry, national and international standards. Muschlitz has decades of experience in the design of real-time embedded firmware and hardware for a variety of systems. He has extensive experience with SCADA systems and a strong knowledge of communications security concepts.

A recipient of a bachelor's and master's degree from Lehigh University, Muschlitz is a founding member of the DNP3 technical committee and a member of the LAN/WAN and Master test procedure working groups. He was an early member of the EPRI UCA/AEP Substation Initiative project, which formed the basis of the IEC 61850 standard series. He is a member of IEC TC 57 WG10 (Power system IED communication) and a developer of the power quality object models. Muschlitz also provided expert input to IEC TC88 Project team 61400-25 (wind turbine plants) in the era of DNP protocol mappings. He is a multi-decade IEEE member with memberships in the Computer, Power Engineering, and Standards Association Societies.

Erich Gunther, co-founder and Chief Technology Officer for EnerNex, said this represents a significant advancement for EnerNex's utility communications and systems integration business: "Bruce is well known and respected within the utility industry for his expertise in communication protocols and standards, and he will help us expand our capabilities and business - especially in our implementations of the EPRI IntelliGrid Architecture and its supporting technologies such as IEC 61850."
