Gunther Receives Recognition for Technology Leadership at GridWeek 2008

KNOXVILLE, Tenn., Sept. 25, 2008— Erich Gunther, EnerNex chairman and chief technology officer, was honored by GridWeek and the U.S. Department of Energy for his technology leadership in grid modernization on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at the recognition reception and dinner held during GridWeek 2008.

Gunther received this recognition for his industry wide involvement in grid modernization and the innovative approach to systems engineering and external engagement with the industry that provided a position in the marketplace for the next generation of grid modernization. Based largely on the EPRI IntelliGrid Architecture, which EnerNex helped to develop and implement, EnerNex has become well-recognized for their role in grid modernization and has laid down the technical underpinnings for the grid of the future that allows utilities to tailor technologies to their specific needs.

According to Gunther, the award endorses EnerNex’s systems engineering and architecture development methodology, as well as the commitment to engineering a cleaner, smarter energy system of the future. “This award recognizes our vision and ability to develop and deliver the most innovative solutions, including our recent involvement with Southern California Edison, Consumers Energy, Entergy, the California Energy Commission, EPRI and many others on their grid modernization projects,” said Gunther. “This recognition emphasizes our commitment to and desire to meet the increasing need for solutions that enable a large-scale utility communications infrastructure to work and be positioned for growth.”

EnerNex is a leading expert on the implementation of smart grid applications, including AMI and other utility automation systems, which is attracting increased attention within the electric power industry, driven partly by a provision in the U.S. Energy Policy Act of 2005 mandating state regulatory bodies examine the feasibility of establishing time-based electricity pricing programs and implementing advanced metering necessary to support such programs and the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007. Many electric power providers and system operators are designing, implementing and utilizing AMI because it is a key smart grid application that facilitates demand response and load control, automation of meter reading, customer connection/disconnection and outage reporting and location.

EnerNex Corporation provides engineering and consulting services, along with software solutions and customization, for the electric power industry. EnerNex focuses on providing services around the development and application of new and emerging electric power technologies to engineer a cleaner, smarter energy system of the future.
