Princeton, N.J., December 20, 2004 - EnerNex's Bob Zavadil has been named to serve on an industry task force tasked with examining reliability issues associated with interconnecting wind generation to the grid. The North American Electric Reliability Council (NERC), an organization whose mission is to ensure the reliability, adequacy, and security of the North American bulk electric system, has formed a Wind Generator Task Force to investigate and, if appropriate, develop a standards authorization request to create new or modify existing NERC standards to address the reliability issues of interconnecting new wind turbine generators to the electric system.

This new Planning Committee task force, operating under NERC's Transmission Issues Subcommittee, will address the planning and operating reliability issues associated with wind turbine generators connected to the electric system, determine the need for any new or revised NERC reliability standards, and using the NERC standards development process, develop appropriate Standards Authorization Requests for consideration by the Standards Authorization Committee. The Utility Wind Integration Group (UWIG), an organization established to provide a forum for the critical analysis of wind technology for utility applications and to serve as a source of credible information on the status of wind technology and deployment, recommended Bob to serve on the task force, which is expected to complete work by the end of 2005. Bob has been providing technical support to UWIG, most notably in the organization and operation of its Wind Plant Modeling and Interconnection Study User Group.
