Bob Zavadil Wins AWEA Technical Award

Knoxville, Tenn., May 11, 2005 - EnerNex® Corporation's Bob Zavadil will be honored by the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) for technical achievement at AWEA's WindPower 2005 Exhibition and Conference in Denver, Colo., on Tuesday, May 17.

Zavadil, vice president and principal consultant for EnerNex, is being recognized for his contributions to the advancement of wind energy technology.

"The wind industry has made great strides and Bob's contributions have helped make this possible," said Randall Swisher, executive director of AWEA.

Zavadil is a leading expert on the impacts of wind generation on utility power systems. Over the past five years, he has performed studies to assess the operational costs and reliability impacts of significant amounts of wind generation on utility systems and control areas. He is a recognized authority on wind turbine electrical technology, and has consulted for most of the leading wind turbine manufacturing companies, including GE Energy and Vestas.

With EnerNex's strategic partners WindLogics, Areva T&D, and Nexgen Energy, Zavadil is leading the development of new and innovative methods for the use of wind generation forecasting information by utility system operators. This overall research initiative includes the application of sophisticated power system simulation tools for investigation of planning and control strategies for large amounts of wind generation, development of new applications and algorithms for Energy Management Systems used in utility control rooms, and eventual training of utility system operators.

Jeff Lamoree, president of EnerNex, noted AWEA's recognition of Zavadil's achievements: "Bob has made significant contributions to the understanding of how wind generation interacts with electric utility power systems. His work in formulating, guiding, and completing studies of wind plant integration and interconnection has helped facilitate the expansion of utility acceptance of wind power and the growth of the wind industry as a whole."

Prior to co-founding EnerNex, Zavadil served in various consulting and product development capacities for Electrotek Concepts and its parent company, WPT. He began his career in the electric power industry as a special studies engineer in the Transmission and Distribution Engineering Division of the Nebraska Public Power District.

EnerNex Corporation provides engineering and consulting services, along with software solutions and customization, for the electric power industry. EnerNex focuses on providing services around the development and application of new and emerging electric power technologies to engineer a cleaner, smarter energy system of the future.
