Sandy Smith served as principal investigator for this EnerNex effort to conduct for CEA Technologies an assessment of the state of the art in demand response and utility/system operator and customer controlled load management in the electric power and natural gas industries. This report, developed by CEA for provision to the funding organizations and for sale to CEA members and nonmembers, looked at
- Engineering, environment, and economic drivers for demand response and load management
- Target sectors
- Programmatic approaches and technologies utilized
- Barriers for implementation or realization of benefits
- Current and anticipated trends
Development of the report closely paralleled the scope for this project proposed for, with a review committee, interim report, and final verbal presentation of the results. The report included an extensive set of appendices, including annotated bibliography, case studies, an inventory of demand/response/load management programs implemented across the United States and Canada, and a directory of technology suppliers. This project was sponsored in part by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association’s Cooperative Research Network, which has made the entire report available for its funding members on its web site. CEA Technologies made the report available to other funding members and offers it for sale.
