EnerNex worked on a project in collaboration with Georgia Power and the Atlanta Hartsfield Airport to investigate, model and mitigate signigicant harmonic dsitortion in the voltage and current cause by the airport's people mover train system.
These trains have been in service for many years and use an older power electronic technology that cases this problem. Measurements were taken at transformer pads located outside the concourses right at the aircraft gates as well as in the primary substations feeding the airport.
Travis Smith and Erich Gunther worked on the project where Travis used the measurements taken to vlaidate the EMTP-RV model he has made of the system. The model was used to design a mechanism for controlling the harmonic distortion.
