EnerNex conducted an Arc Flash study for the Edom Hills 20MW wind plant. The Computer Aided Protection Engineering Software (CAPE) was used to calculate the PPE (Protective Personal Equipment) levels at the main substation, collector system, pad-mount transformer, and low voltage breaker located between the secondary of the pad-mount transformer and Clipper wind generator. PPE levels, calculation methodology based on IEEE 1584 “Guide for Performing Arc-Flash Hazard Calculations,” fault current, arcing current, Incident Energy Levels, Arc Flash Boundary (@ En = 1.2 cal/cm^2) and fault clearing time were provided. For voltages below 15kV, the results were presented for four different categories: Open Air, Switch Gear, MCC/Panels and Cables, the main differences between all four categories are in the working distance, gap between conductors and Distance x factor. Arc flash category warning labels were provided.
