Southern California Edison Wins Award for AMI Development Initiative, EnerNex RecognizedThe Utility Planning Network, a worldwide membership-based peer group of utility professionals facilitating the Automatic Meter Reader Association (AMRA) annual Metering Awards Program, recognized Phase I of Southern California Edison's (SCE's) AMI Development Program as the 2005/2006 Best AMR Initiative by a North American investor-owned utility. This award recognizes SCE's innovative approach to systems engineering, vendor engagement and external engagement with the industry that provided a catalyst in the marketplace for the next generation of advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) systems. The awards committee asked each winner to identify key players that helped them with the project and SCE named project consultants EnerNex, IBM and KEMA to receive the award jointly with them. According to EnerNex co-founder and Chief Technology Officer Erich Gunther, the award validates EnerNex's systems engineering and architecture development methodology, based in large part on the EPRI IntelliGrid Architecture, which EnerNex personnel helped to develop and implement: "One of the key facets in making any large-scale utility communications infrastructure not only work, but also be positioned for growth, is an extensible, standards-based framework. IntelliGrid lays the basis for this and SCE took this into consideration in asking us to help them and utilizing it throughout the entire AMI development process. "
