CHANGING BALANCES:
THE MIDDLE EAST AND THE ENERGY TRANSITION

CESI’s 14th issue of The Energy Journal focuses on the Middle East, and the Gulf countries in particular, considered one of the most fast-changing areas in the world. Despite their historical role of leadership in the fossil fuel sector, these Countries are all determined to become key players of the energy transition. In particular, the magazine explores the topic with Bahrain’s Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs, H.E. Abdul Hussain Ali Mirza, who underlined the strategic importance of Bahrain’s National Energy Efficiency Action Plan.

In addition, Dr. Francesco La Camera, IRENA’s Director-General, answered questions on renewable energy projects in the Gulf region, emphasizing the role of cooperation and concrete policies to help reduce climate change. Cities in the Middle East are working in this direction, building their new identities around sustainability and innovation. And CESI, working in the area since 2009, is contributing to help these countries achieve their energy goals with different projects, from interconnections to smart metering, ensuring they will generate new commercial opportunities for everyone.
