Mariana Kamel is a Principal Consultant working on projects to address a range of real-world challenges and concerns for the power system industry, such as: operation of nuclear power plants auxiliary loads and their protection systems in the event of an open-phase fault; correct operation of transmission lines’ protection systems when geomagnetic induced currents blocking devices are present along the fault path; and the reliable integration of smart photovoltaic systems.
In addition, she worked on a number of research projects that explored questions of high interest to the power system research community such as: the voltage stability of power systems and the application of machine learning to the operation of power systems. Her efforts on these projects have led to several solid contributions to the power systems body of knowledge.

Chandra Pallem
Principal Consultant
Dr. Chandra Pallem joined EnerNex in August 2006 as a Power Systems Engineer after receiving her doctorate in electrical engineering from Tennessee Technological University. Her areas of expertise are transient studies and harmonic analysis of power systems. Chandra’s preferred software tool for the computer simulation of power systems is EMTP-RV. Her software expertise includes NexHarm, PSCAD, Cape and ASPEN Oneliner.
Chandra has been involved in a large variety of projects including transient, Temporary Overvoltage (TOV), insulation coordination, harmonic, steady state power flow and short circuit studies on wind plants. For utilities, and other power systems, she has been involved in projects including capacitor switching, overhead line/underground cable energization studies, power quality studies, Transient Recovery Voltage (TRV) studies for circuit breakers, and reactor failure analysis. She has also been involved with transient, harmonic, and power quality studies for various solar power plants.

Sean Cantrelle
Consultant
Sean Cantrelle, Consultant, recently graduated from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering with a specialty in control systems, power systems, and microcontrollers. As a Consultant with the Power Systems Group, Sean performs research on power grid conditions in other countries and supports U.S. utilities through power systems simulation.

Thomas Cavicchi
Principal Consultant
Thomas Cavicchi is an electrical engineer focusing on power system modeling, simulation, and analysis. Upon joining EnerNex, he has performed studies on temporary over-voltage, capacitor switching, power transformer energization, BESS dynamic frequency containment, and TARA automation. Most recently prior to his joining EnerNex, he was an electrical engineer for Black & Veatch’s Global Transmission business line.
Generally, his project experience has included solar energy/BESS interconnection, grid compliance, dynamic simulation of stability and transients, reactive power compensation, and power quality enhancement including harmonic studies—performing simulation/analysis as well as authoring associated technical reports.
He has been the lead engineer on numerous projects and has provided quality assurance reporting for numerous studies. Software tools include PSS/E, PSCAD, DIgSILENT/PowerFactory, TARA, ETAP, PSLF, Matlab/Simulink, OpenDSS.

David Mueller
Vice President of Energy Systems Studies
Since 1990, Dave has worked on a wide variety of projects to solve electric power problems. He has worked with companies such as Georgia Power, Dominion Resources, PSE&G, Duke Energy, Public Service of New Mexico, Delmarva Power, Wisconsin Electric Power Company, Con Edison of New York, Intel, Google, Apple, General Motors, East Midlands Electricity (UK), and the Electricity Supply Board (Ireland) to solve power quality problems.
Dave has also written many technical papers and articles on electric power quality and has given over 100 presentations on these topics. He has presented these subjects in over 50 different cities, and has done work in over 25 different states in the U.S. Overseas, he has presented power quality in around 13 countries.

Muhammad Humayun
Principal Consultant
Muhammad Humayun, Ph.D., is a Principal Consultant at EnerNex and has been with the Power Systems Group since 2016. He has over 15 years of project experience in power quality consulting, reaching across several countries. Muhammad’s expertise includes distribution and power system planning, operation, and control, renewable modeling and integration, reliability studies, and lightning performance. Muhammad has conducted various projects related to harmonics, equipment energization, model development, grounding evaluation, reactive power compensation, volt-var optimization, short-circuit, temporary over-voltage, resonance, insulation coordination, distribution state estimation, and smart inverter performance evaluation using power system tools such as PSSE, EMTP, PSCAD, ASPEN OneLiner, IEEE Flash, OpenDSS, CYME, Synergi Electric. He has authored and co-authored over 30 peer-reviewed articles and a book chapter.

Vadim Zheglov
Principal Consultant
Vadim Zheglov, Power Systems Principal Consultant, has over 15 years of experience in power quality consulting, performing studies covering large variety of areas such as electric power grid modernization, power quality issues in wind plants and other power systems, renewable generation integration in distribution systems, integration cost analysis, arc flash hazards, and others. He has conducted analytical studies of various power systems related projects, such as load flow, transient and harmonic studies using PSSE, PSLF, Matlab/Simulink, OpenDSS, CYME, EMTP-RV and various other simulation tools. Vadim also performs on-site field measurements on operating power systems ranging from solar and wind power plants to integrated backup power supplies and industrial facilities.
